Privacy Policy

ChoreBlock is built by Scarabyte. The app locks distracting apps until you complete a household chore, verified by a live photo. This policy explains what data the app touches and — more importantly — what it never keeps.

The short version: your chore photos are checked and immediately deleted, your app-usage settings never leave your phone, and we don't have user accounts, ads, or data sales. Ever.

Chore photos

When you verify a chore, the photo you take is sent over an encrypted connection to our verification service, where an AI model compares it to your reference photo and returns a pass/fail result. The photo is discarded immediately after the check — it is never stored on a server, never logged, never used to train AI models, and never seen by a human. Your reference (baseline) photos are stored only on your device.

Capture is camera-only: the app has no access to your photo library.

To measure and improve how accurate the check is, we keep an anonymous record of each check's result — which chore, whether it passed, how sure the check was, a multiple-choice reason it didn't pass, how long it took, the hour of day, which app version ran it and whether it was a test build, and a random code that groups the retries within one visit to the camera (it is made up fresh each time, is not saved on your phone, and cannot be traced to you) — plus a weekly count of how many checks the app made. The record never includes the photo, the written feedback you see, your IP address, or anything that identifies you or your device. It is stored in our own database, hosted by Supabase.

Screen Time data

ChoreBlock uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to lock and unlock the apps you choose. Apple's design keeps this data private by architecture: the list of apps you block is held in opaque tokens that ChoreBlock cannot read and that never leave your device. We cannot see which apps you block or how you use your phone.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, our subscription infrastructure provider. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-generated identifier and purchase receipts — never your name, email, or photos. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

Purchase and marketing measurement

To understand which of our marketing (creator videos, promo codes and ads) leads to downloads and subscriptions, we collect a small amount of anonymous purchase data:

Purchase events from RevenueCat. When you start a trial, subscribe, renew, cancel, switch plans or get a refund, RevenueCat sends us a record of that event: an anonymous app-generated user ID, the product, price and currency, your country, the dates, and any promo code or campaign it was linked to. We store these records in our own database, hosted by Supabase, to count trials, customers and revenue.

This data never includes your name, email, photos or Screen Time data. We do not use your advertising identifier (IDFA), do not ask to track you, do not combine this data with data from other companies to profile you, and do not use it to show you ads. See Supabase's privacy policy.

Crash reports

We use Sentry to collect crash reports and performance data so we can fix bugs. These reports contain technical details about the crash (device model, OS version, what the app was doing) — never photos or personal information. See Sentry's privacy policy.

What we don't do

No user accounts — nothing to sign up for, nothing to breach
No ads and no third-party ad tracking
No selling or sharing of personal data
No location tracking, step counting, or motion sensors
No photo storage of any kind on our servers

Data retention & deletion

Because chore photos are discarded at verification time and your settings live only on your device, deleting the app deletes your data. There is no user profile on our servers. The anonymous purchase records described under "Purchase and marketing measurement" contain nothing that identifies you, and we keep them only as long as we need them for business and accounting records. Anonymous check results are deleted automatically after 90 days; only monthly totals are kept.

Children

ChoreBlock is designed for adults managing their own screen time and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.

What changed

October 2026: We now keep an anonymous record of each photo check's result (pass or fail, and why) and a weekly count of checks, to measure accuracy and cost. The photo itself is still never stored, and nothing is linked to you. See "Chore photos" above.
October 2026: We now receive anonymous purchase records (trials, subscriptions, renewals, refunds) from RevenueCat to see which of our marketing works. No name, email, or app data is included, and we don't track you. See "Purchase and marketing measurement" above.
